Benchmarking Clubs are being established in Dorset by the Partnership to represent three main industry sectors:
- Accommodation
- Attractions
- Holiday Parks
This initiative, which is designed to drive up profitability, performance and competitiveness within Dorset's tourism industry, is available to tourism businesses ready to progress alongside the best.
Benchmarking is an effective management tool that enables you to identify where resources are most profitably deployed for maximum benefit.
Benchmarking provides a birds eye view of your business by charting your performance levels in relation to others of a similar type and size - locally and nationally. A valuable for your eyes only insight into those aspects of your business that are performing well, where attention may be needed and where resources could be directed.
This inventive management tool is completely confidential. Throughout the process assistance will be offered by the Partnership's Business Coach who will also be on hand to help advice and implement any desired changes.
In the Cumbrian pilot of 2003 results were impressive:
Benchmarking helped participants achieve an average increase in customer satisfaction of 25%, a reduction in staff turnover of 25% and an increase in spend per head of 6%.
Not bad for an investment of £99 and a couple of days!
Benchmarking has the backing of all the national trade bodies, notably the British Holiday and Home Parks Association and British Hospitality Association, Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, the Meetings Industry Assocation and Restaurant Association. It is delivered in Dorset by the Dorset New Forest Tourism Partnership on behalf of the government's Best Practice Forum.
